Today’s rough sketch of a watercolour collection I am planning to create.
The collection will be four watercolours of Monarch Butterflies. I will paint all three individually then really stretch my self and try to paint them all together with a background of swamp plants etc for the final piece.

A few weeks ago I ran into a car show outside Mitre10 on the Kapiti Coast. I took a large number of photos for possible art projects, and today one of those has been completed.
Creating my next Celtic Design
This morning’s sketch is focusing on designing a dragon & trinity knot for my Celtic Design collection. Dragons have a significant place in Celtic methodology and art.
In this post I am giving a sneak preview of how I start the design process. For these sorts of designs I use good old maths tools to help along with my freehand ability.
Plan for the week.
On Monday, I like to finalise my plan for the week, including which projects I might work on and which skills I am looking to develop or improve. I decided that this week needs to be dedicated to sketching practice, which will help improve my artwork considerably.

Salmon & Celtic Cross
Today started vanishing the Whale Shark and Gannet artworks. Went into Porirua to buy art supplies and decided to work on my next Celtic Design when I returned.
The Fearless Fisherman & Gentle Giant
Finished painting two works from yesterday and they are being varnished this morning. I hope you like my ‘Gentle Giant’ and ‘Fearless Fisherman’ artworks.

Today I am working on two pieces. An Australasian Gannet for my NZ Sea Birds Collection and a beautiful creature that my youngest daughter recently had the privilege of swimming with while visiting Mexico.
