‘Kraka the kākā’
First piece of Kiwiana Pop Art finished, ready to be varnished, then framed.
Really enjoyed working on this today. These works take me almost all day and will not be completed for another day or so. In this case, as the art is on canvas board, it will be varnished to improve the finish, then framed in a white wooden frame with white mat board.
The challenge today was getting the colours with greater opacity to help the piece stand out. How did I do?
‘Kraka the kākā’
The kākā (Nestor meridionalis) is a large, highly intelligent forest parrot endemic to New Zealand, celebrated for its boisterous, playful nature and distinctive, raucous calls. Belonging to the ancient Nestor genus, it is a close relative of the alpine kea and a resident of mid-to-high forest canopies across New Zealand's main and offshore islands.
Acrylic paint on canvas board, 405 mm x 305 mm, will be framed in a white frame with white mat board.
