The Fearless Fisherman & Gentle Giant
First painting finished and being varnished this morning
Inspired by my youngest daughter's recent trip to Mexico, where she got to swim with these big, beautiful sharks. I added the silhouette of a scuba diver later in the day to add perspective and to improve the composition of this work.
‘Gentle Giant’
The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest living fish species in the world. Despite their enormous, whale-like size, they are true sharks and belong to the fish family, making them entirely harmless.

Followed by the next in my New Zealand Sea Bird series.
Inspired by our local Gannet who entertains me with their dramatic, but very effective fishing skills. I really enjoy painting sea birds, wonder which one to create next?
The Australasian gannet (Morus serrator), commonly known in New Zealand as the tākapu, is a large, striking seabird celebrated for its remarkable high-speed plunge-diving. Found primarily across the coastal waters of New Zealand, southern Australia, and Tasmania, these birds are easily recognisable by their distinctive appearance and dramatic hunting behaviour.
