‘Freedom’

The shining cuckoo (known in te reo Māori as pīpīwharauroa) is a small, iridescent land bird revered in New Zealand as the classic messenger of spring. Although it has a brilliant metallic green back and a distinctively barred black-and-white breast, it is a master of camouflage. Because it hides high within dense forest canopies, it is far more frequently heard than it is seen.
