These beautiful creatures are abundant around my place late Spring and into Summer. This collection will consist of both a series of four watercolours and some Acrylic paintings.
Monarch in Flight
First watercolour painting for my new collection featuring Monarch Butterflies.
Monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) self-introduced to New Zealand in the mid-19th century. They are famous for their bright orange and black wings, and their survival depends heavily on the introduced swan plant (Gomphocarpus physocarpus), which acts as the primary food source for their caterpillars.
Watercolour painting with acrylic pen highlights for the white on the wings. Will be framed in an 8x8 inch frame.
